Teen Driver Education

Students aged 14 years and 9 months to 17 years are required to complete the teen driver education course to obtain their driver’s license. The State of Texas mandates 32 hours of classroom instruction, followed by 14 hours of behind-the-wheel training, divided into 7 driving sessions. Students will take a written test in the classroom; upon passing, they will receive a DE-964 certificate necessary for obtaining their learner’s permit from the DPS. After obtaining the learner’s permit, students must submit a copy to the driving school office, either as a hard copy or by uploading a digital copy on our website

Scheduling Drive Times:

Drive times are scheduled based on the student’s availability and are designed to be flexible. Students will drive in pairs with one of our instructors, with each student driving for one hour and observing for one hour. During summer, morning and evening hours are available for both classes and driving sessions.

Additional Requirements for Students Under 18:

In addition to completing the course, students under 18 must complete 30 hours of driving, including 10 hours at night. These driving hours must be supervised by parents, legal guardians, or an adult over 21. The hours should be recorded in the 30-hour log provided by DPS. Click here to print the 30 Hours Log.

IMPACT TEXAS TEENS DRIVERS (ITTD):

As of September 1, 2015, Texas requires all students who are taking or have completed the teen course to complete the ITTD program before their road test. This program can only be completed after finishing the full teen course (32 hours of classroom instruction, 14 hours of behind-the-wheel training, and 30 hours of additional driving with an adult) and receiving the certificate of completion. ITTD is a 2-hour program consisting of eight modules, with a quiz after each module. After completing the lessons, the student can print their certificate, which will be sent via email. The ITTD certificate is valid for 90 days and can be completed online.
